To overcome with this problem, Telecom Industry finds a solution called Voice Over WiFi also abbreviated as VoWiFi. Some companies also call VoWiFi as WiFi calling. What is WiFi Calling or VoWiFi?

WiFi calling uses a WiFi network (instead of the telecom cell towers network) to place a call. Now, to place WiFi call there are some prerequisites to follow. For example, one can place a WiFi call when both the telecom operator and the mobile phone company supports the facility. Also, a broadband, Hotspot or WiFi connectivity is required. Although it isn’t required but some telecom operators ask you to turn on LTE to enable this feature.

Now, In India, BSNL was the first one to introduce wifi calling facility via its wings service. However, to use wings one should have to install an additional app.

Anyways, here I’m talking about Airtel WiFi Calling Feature and the list of smartphones supporting the feature. Now, Before I reveal the list, let me tell you that, right now, Airtel WiFi Calling facility is only available in Delhi and NCR region. Also, there are a set of prerequisites one should have to follow to access Airtel WiFi calling. Let me first list out these prerequisites.

Prerequisites to access Airtel WiFi Calling

• You have an Airtel 4G SIM card.
• A Smartphone having the VoWiFi or WiFi Calling Option.

How to Place a WiFi call via Airtel WiFi Calling?

Once you have these two prerequisites, All you have to do is Turn ON the VoLTE and WiFi Calling option.

Then, afterwards, restart your phone and you starts seeing the WiFi calling icon on your phones status bar (located at the top of your phone’s screen).

Now, if you place a call you get an option to place call via WiFi. Choose the same option and you able to make call via WiFi.
