IRCTC Website Not Opening Ahead of Diwali and Chhath Festivals

The website of ticketing, catering, and tourism services for the Indian Railways called IRCTC is not opening ahead of the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals.

While users are facing so many difficulties to reserve their train tickets online, the website authorities haven’t fixed the website for so many days.

There are many portals to book tickets online, like PayTm, MakeMyTrip, Ixigo, and more, however, these websites are agents and ultimately depend on the IRCTC website. Which means, you can’t book the ticket from these websites, unless and until the IRCTC will not open.

Why is the IRCTC Website not Opening?

During Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, millions of passengers travel to their hometowns to celebrate these festivals with their loved ones.

As per Indian Railway, the average passenger count during Diwali and Chhath Puja festival is around 22-24 millions. Last year, the Indian Railway carried over 29 million passengers on the day before Diwali.

Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bangalore are the most popular routes during these festive seasons.

The majority of passengers are either migrant workers or students.

To ease the rush, Indian Railways takes numerous measures like:

  1. Introducing festival special trains
  2. Increasing the frequency of existing trains
  3. Deploying additional staff at railways stations and so on.

However, they haven’t taken serious measures on the website through which they are availing ticket booking service. They should upgrade the website server and payment gateway for handling such traffic.

I have tried opening the IRCTC website for the past 3-4 days and it is not opening.

I then try to book the ticket through PayTm, but after filling all the journey and passenger details, they redirect me to the IRCTC website for the verification of login credentials. However, because the website is not opening, I failed to book the ticket.

What is the option now?

Now the website is not opening, the only way to book tickets is either via Offline Ticket counters or via website during the non-trafficked hours. Like morning or late night.
