Indians will soon switch in between Prepaid and Postpaid Mobile Connection via OTP
The mobile users in India are soon going to switch in between their Prepaid and Postpaid SIM cards OTP.
We told you about the same last year, but back then TRAI was the one who proposed the same but due to the lack of the Proof of Concept, the same method was not able to go live.
However, this time, the Cellular Operators of India whose members are Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone have requested the same with a working Proof of Concept.
Back on April 9 this year, the Cellular operators of India requested the Department of Telecom to follow the OTP method to switch between Prepaid and Postpaid mobile connection.
They said while the OTP method is hassle free, it is also fast in comparison to current KYC procedure.
Currently, if a mobile user in India wants to switch from Prepaid to Postpaid connection they must complete a KYC procedure.
Below you read about the same Proof of Concept I am talking about above.
Proposed Procedure to Switch in between Prepaid and Postpaid Mobile SIM via OTP
At first, the user sends the switching request to its service provider via SMS, IVRS, Website or App.
Once receiving the request, the service provider will respond to the user with a Unique Transaction ID and an OTP.
The user then confirms the OTP with the Service Provider which will be treated as a consent to initiate the switching process.
Once received on the User phone the OTP will be valid for only 10 minutes.
After receiving the OTP from the user, the service provider will initiate the switching process amid which the service might be disrupted but not for more than 30 minutes.
Like in the current KYC procedure, while switching between Prepaid and Postpaid mobile connection doesn’t require changing the Mobile Number and SIM card, the OTP method will also follow the same.
So, that is all for now, it’s now up to the DoT when they are going to approve the OTP method of Switching the Mobile SIM from Prepaid to Postpaid and vice versa.
