Google Remove Tik Tok App from Google Play Store

Google remove Tik Tok App from Google Play Store by following the direction made by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Let me explain you the whole story in detail. On April 3, 2019 Madras High Court ask the Government to prohibit downloading of Tik Tok app in the country. Later, the company officials file a petition to Supreme court of India about matter. However, Supreme court also refuses to lift up the ban on the app made by Madras High Court. The Apex court will further hear for the same case on April 22.

Now, By the decision of Madras High court and Supreme Court of India, MeitY ask Google and Apple to remove this app from their respective App Store. Result is Google remove this app from Playstore. So, you won’t find Tik Tok app on Google Play Store right now. Talking the Apple App Store, at the time of writing this article, I found Tik Tik on Apple App Store. Now, it is upto Apple where they remove this app from their store or not. Google has removed it and we don’t know now whether this removal is permanent or temporary. Because it depends on Supreme court April 22 decision.

One more thing, users who have already installed this app on their phone can use it without any worry. New users however now able to install the app officially from the Play Store. But It doesn’t mean one can not install the app on their smartphone if it is not available at Play Store. We haven’t test it yet, but we think one can use it via VPN and .apk file of the app if they able to get it from somewhere.

Note that This year and the last year, Tik Tok is the third most installed app on both the Google Play Store and Apple Store.

Why Madras High Court wants to Ban Tik Tok in India?

According to Madras High Court, the app publishes videos that sports nudity which is also exposable to childrens in India under age. Now if you talk about the Ground reality of Tik Tok, most of the Tik Tok users are Teens and are coming from Small Towns.

About this implication, The company officials said that they have deleted over 6 million videos that sports such content. Also we try to bring some more filter to our app and so on.

So, this is the whole story in brief. Do you think Tik Tok ban in India is a right decision by the Government? If yes why and if no why? Do let us know in the comment section below.
