In a new update rolled out today, Google Hangouts Meet now support Live caption in Android, which was earlier part of Google Hangouts Meet for web only. Those of you who don’t know Live caption is a feature that can live transcribe the audio and video playing on your phone. Google first announced about this feature at its Cloud Next event which was held on April this year. There Google revealed Live Caption going to be the part of Android Q and it does require any internet connection to work. Live Captions can work offline in Android Q.
Live caption feature make Google Hangouts Meet more accessible to users who are deaf or facing hard to hear. Also, it make Hangouts Meet a great place for meeting between users speaking different languages.
How to Turn ON Live Caption in Google Hangouts Meet for Android?
To turn on live caption in Google Hangouts Meet for Android, all you have to do is tap on the closed captions button present on the top right of the Google Hangouts Meet app when you are in a meeting. By default Live Caption is turned on for English Language. However, you can change it different language by tapping on the three dots present there.
How to Turn ON Live Caption in Google Hangouts Meet for Web?
There is a similar option to turn on live caption in Google Hangouts Meet for Web. However, this time the option is present in the bottom right corner of your screen. Here also you could change the language by tapping on the three dots.
Note: At the time of writing this article, Live Caption is part of Google Hangouts Meet for Android and Web Only. However, it will roll out to Google Hangouts Meet for iOS also in coming days.
As I pointed above live caption is part of Android Q, but as it is natively available in Google Hangouts Meet one can able to access this feature in any android version supporting latest version of Hangouts Meet.
