Under National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), Yesterday, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee has installed a made-in-India supercomputer “PARAM Ganga” on the campus premises.
This Petascale supercomputer was installed itself by the Chairman of IIT Roorkee Board of Governers, B.V.R. Mohan Reddy.
The PARAM Ganga supercomputer is capable to perform 1.66 Peta Floating-Point Operations Per Second.
It will help researchers to solve complex problems of national importance as well as help other institutions (as well) in research purposes.
While addressing the event, the Chairman of IIT Roorkee said, I am happy to say that all the important parts of PARAM Ganga such as motherboards, liquid cooling data centers, etc are made in India. The progress we made will lead India towards achieving Atmanirbhar Bharat.
PARAM Ganga is a joint initiative of the Department of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. In addition to that, IIT Roorkee was signed an MoU with CDAC to create this supercomputer. Hence, CDAC helps IIT Roorkee to manufacture some critical components of PARAM Ganga such as Motherboards for Servers, Liquid Cooling Data Centers, and others.
