Google Chrome is one of the best browsers on the Internet for a reason.
It has plenty of features that makes the user’s journey on the internet simpler.
Apart from that, the browser tests new features from time to time in order to make Chrome Standout from other browsers.
Now, in order to make Chrome even better, the browser is testing a feature that lets users close unused tabs.
This feature was first spotted by @Leopeva64 and shared on X as soon as it arrived on Google Chrome’s Canary Branch.
Although it is not part of the release branch yet, we may see it soon in the future.
So, here is how this feature works.
Suppose you have opened too many tabs in Chrome for over a week or while which are unused, then the browser will prompt you with a big “close tabs” chip/button, hitting on which leads all the unused to be closed.
The close tabs chip appears several times in a session when several unused tabs open.
Benefits of Closing Unused Tabs in Chrome
Opening too many tabs in Google Chrome leads too several performance issues mentioned below:
- Slower Performance: Opening too many tabs in Google Chrome eats computer resources like RAM and CPU, which leads to slower loading time, laggy scrolling, and more.
- System Crash: When too many tabs are open in your Chrome Browser, it may happen that your system ran out of available memory which can cause the browser or entire operating system to crash.
- Tab Freezing: You may have noticed that sometimes, the browser tabs freezes or become unresponsive. The prime reason it happens when many tabs are open in the browser which consume too much resource.
- Battery Drain: Opening too many tabs in Chrome also leads to draining the battery of our system. This happens because too many tabs consumes too many resources which consumes power to operate.
So, while we know that Google Chrome is testing this feature (Closed Unused tabs with one click), we have to wait for a while to have it available on the live branch.
