On October 14, Google and Adani Enterprises signed a $15 billion partnership to open India’s largest AI Data Center in Visakhapatnam.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said this is the largest AI data center Google is opening outside the United States so far.
It will have gigawatt-scale compute capacity. Initially, it operates at 1-gigawatt capacity but with time it will be scaled to multiple gigawatts.
State officials said that the facility will generate more than 1,88,000 jobs, also making it the largest direct foreign investment in the Indian technology market.
And, it is not surprising, India nearly has around one billion internet users making it a critical market for global technology leaders.
That’s the reason, not just Google, Microsoft and Amazon have also committed billions to initiate similar projects in India.
This new project also aligns with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision that aims to empower Indians with 21st century technological tools.
